LAST POST OF 2005!!!!!!!!
First, some bid'ness.

1. The Crusher promo on the "Best Interviews of the AWA" show rules, but Dusty Rhodes' promo is FUCKING INSANE. He must have been coked to the max or something. Hollerin' about lava rocks and Minnesota winters at 100 MPH.

2. I'm moving, and if I lent you any DVDs or books or whatever, I'm requesting 'em be returned soon. I hate to be that kinda fella, but it's for my own post-moving, I-gotta-know-if-I-brought-all-my-shit peace of mind. Thanks.

And now, GB insomnia presents:

1) What stickers do you have on your car, if any?
Zilch (no car!!). I do have a Stooges sticker on my toy piano, though.

2) What posters do you have in your room?
I don't know how much available wall-space I'm gonna have in my new room, but if anything gets hung up, my "Chungking Express" poster has first dibs..

3) What do you hear right now?
Hum of the computer, clickin' of the keys.

4) If you could drink anything right this second, what would it be?
Hot chocolate.

5) Does anything hurt on your body right now?
Nope!!

6) If someone you hated died, would you laugh and spit on their grave?
Nah.

13) Whats the next concert/show youre going to and when?

14) What were you doing at 9 pm last night?
Hanging out in Algoma, making Christmas presents.

Do they have hot chocolate? Probably! That.

16) Do you exercise as much as you should?
No, but I do SOME daily. Cardio could be better, though.

17) Did you attend your High School prom?
No, I did dress in a suit and go to Olive Garden though.

18) Did you go to someone elses prom?
Tough Goons crashed Ashwaubenon's once!!!

19) Would you give your bf/gf a second chance if they cheated on you?
No fucking way.

SOME STRANGE QUESTIONS:

How long can you hold your breath underwater?
I'd say...3 minutes.

Favorite pocky flavor?
POCKY TASTES LIKE SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sparkly things?
I know zero sparkly things.

Ever crash a car, been in accidents?
Yeah!! I've totalled other peoples cars, but never my own.

Do you look good in yellow?

When the spirit moves me.

Is your hair long enough to chew on?

Fighting those "sad stupid lyrics to illustrate my 'deep' emotions" posts, one Friday at a time...
The Chob - "We're Pretty Quick" (someone on GaragePunk.com just located the actual lyrics from the Library of Congress, and they're the some of the best ever...pick up the TEENAGE SHUTDOWN: I'M A NO-COUNT comp and sing along to one of the most excellent Friday songs ever!)

Are you sure, yours and I
You have heard of the affectionate lie,
If you put a toad in water I mean H-2-0
I mean to tell you darlin that I'll never come back, no
And that leads us to derive

We're Pretty Quick, as a matter of fact

Aw give it to me, your love
You're the only one I know that says above and means below
Now put your love in a bag and swing round your head babe
Yeah, it can be done baby I know,
I told you

We're pretty quick, as a matter of fact

We can see by the clock with the time on the wall
Is it true that his bridge is getting ready to fall?
If a pedestal mounted is a female
Then how do you know what is or isn't for sale
If you're pretty good you can do the trick
As a matter of fact I say We're Pretty Quick now

We're pretty quick as a matter of fact

BAD. MOTHER. FUCKER.

I am eternally sorry for anyone who didn't see "Mr. Rhythm" Andre Williams tonight at Onopa. Probably the most ass-shakin' good time I've ever had at a show (although this year has been tops in general, with KK/BBQ Show and the post-50's Fest International-Rock'n'Roll-Legends-Dance-All-Night-'Til-You-Die-In-The-Bathroom-Of-Al's-Hamburger's-at-7-AM shindig)!!!! Even better than his Cafe' set! Tomorrow, as well as currently (although half-hearted, I'm beat as beat can be), I will mourn your awful decison-making skills.

Also, happy birthday to my man Jack Bram! 21!!!! He drew this for his post "Potentially Wasted"-project tenatively called "The Bristol Sisters". Everyone always said I was a fucking cartoon character...

Band practice, cookout, F.S.U. tomorrow. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww yeah.

PS. Leah Severson, holla back.

Tony Blair: Punk icon

By Brian Wheeler
BBC News politics reporter, in Brighton

Blair's arrival
Tony Blair: Prime minister, Labour leader, punk icon.

It sounds unlikely but how else could you explain Mr Blair's choice of walk-on music for his big party conference speech on Tuesday?

Not the vaguely uplifting soft rock anthem normally chosen for these occasions, something by The Lighthouse Family, perhaps, or U2, but the sound of angry young London circa 1978: Sham 69.

And the song - If The Kids Are United ("they will never be divided!") - well, if that wasn't an ironic dig at his frontbench colleague Gordon Brown, what was?

Certainly no one was more surprised by Labour's choice of music than the song's composer Jimmy Pursey, now aged 50, who must contemplate membership of a very exclusive club.

"Usually you see him with Geldof and Bono, the jet-set political messiahs. I see my band as more of an SAS unit. We're outlaws," the veteran punk told The Times.

"I hope he's not using that song as a sort of backing innuendo to say Gordon and Tony are united. That song was written as a spiritual thing, as an anthem for the people of this country.

"I hope Tony Blair wants to adopt those lyrics and live up to them."

Guttural roar

Labour has made a speciality of setting the mood Mr Blair's big entrance. The build up begins at least half an hour before his entrance with expensively-produced videos and whizzy graphics scrolling across the big conference hall screens.

Last year the musical accompaniment was Fatboy Slim's dance anthem Right Here, Right Now.

Perhaps we should have realised they were going for a more earthy feel this year when speakers burst into life with Jet's Are You Gonna be My Girl? (Although given Mr Blair's penchant for describing the Labour Party as his lover or his wife, perhaps not).

But nothing prepared us for Mr Pursey's guttural roar: "For once in my life I've got something to say/I wanna say it now for now is today!"

Red Flag

The name of his band - Sham 69 - inspired a few quips from the non-Blairite element in the hall.

"More like sham 24/7," commented one senior figure on the left of the party.

And who were these "kids"? Surely not Labour's decidedly middle-aged frontbench?

It was all a far cry from The Red Flag, the traditional anthem of Labour conferences, which Mr Blair was forced to stumble his way through at last year's gathering.

Or U2's Beautiful Day - Labour's general election theme tune (despite misgivings from the band).

Either way, the Labour faithful appeared much more at ease on Tuesday night at a reception for northern MPs, where the music was provided by sixties band The Animals.

Although Mr Blair apparently left before the band took the stage. The thought of him pogoing along to House of the Rising Sun might have been too much to bear...

The girls are all ugly and it always rains!
Actually, it's sunny today!!! Fall rules.

If anyone is on Soulseek and has any Bunker Hill tunes besides "Little Red Riding Hood" and "Girl Can't Dance", PLEASE let me know. I think he has like two other recordings...

While you're on there, download the new Hazelnuts Chocolate album, "Cute". Their (her?) first album was pretty blah, but THIS 'un lives up to it's name big time. The best sugarry-sweet bubblegum record of the year bar-none. Really catchy, really great. Right up there with "Music For Funsters" and "Tie Your Noose" as one of my top pops of the year. Fuck yeah!!!!!!!

Swiping Mary's computer!
Sooooooooooo, I went to see "The Aristocrats" tonight. Not as good as I expected. There was a few fucking hilarious parts in it, such as Sarah Silverman, but overall it was a bit...almost condescending (It ends with John Stewart summing it up perfectly kinda unintentionally). It's pretty obvious WHY the joke is funny, I don't need everyone telling me over and over why.

Two nitpicking things:
1) IS THERE ANY LOWER FORM OF LIFE THAN A VENTRILOQUIST?!?!?!?!? I vote "NO".
2) The editors of "The Onion" irritated the heck outta me. Y'all write an entertaining periodical, but geez.

MAYBE see it at the budget or whatever. On the plus side, The Oriental is AMAZING and they're gonna be playing "2046" soon.

Now, in order to full appreciate "2046", let it be known that you should first watch "Days of Being Wild", then "In the Mood For Love". This will allow you to fully appreciate this 100% masterpiece. Dig?

OH WAIT! Does anybody know of any Milwaukee-area screen printing places? And where to get shirts in bulk...

In honor of Jeni's return...
MOVIES MOVIES MOVIES!!!

Actually...MOVIE. Singular.

But WHAT A FUCKING MOVIE INDEED! I finally got "The Calamari Wrestler" on DVD and it is one of the most awesome pieces of Z-Grade STOOPID cinema I've got in my collection. Basically, the plot is this: Koji Taguchi wins the IWGP (wait, it's not the IWGP, it's some slightly altered version of the name 'cause they can't use real feds or wrestler names in the movie) Title with his signature reverse-inverted-full-nelson clutch. But the celebration is short-lived, because a giant squid enters the ring and swipes the title out of Taguchi's grasp!!! An impromptu match ensues and Taguchi gets the squid in his deadly finisher. However, as the commentator points out, the squid won't tap because joint-locks don't work if someone doesn't have joints. The mysterious monster escapes and KO's Taguchi with a Northern Lights Suplex and leaves the new champ laid-out.

That's the pre-credits sequence, and after that the plot revolves around the squid's identity (the Northern Lights Suplex was the signature move of a wrestler who disappeared off the map) and the impending rematch and what it means to Taguchi's personal and professional life. I shouldn't give away much more than that...I mean, with all the puroresu/rubber-suit monster movie fans out there, I wouldn't wanna spoil it. For me, this is a modern-day classic in terms of Japanese exploitation, right along side "Audition" and "Battle Royale". Cheesier than both, naturally, but 100% fun...and that's all that matters!!!

THIS JUST IN: DORKS GETTING FEMALE ATTENTION AND ARE CREEPED OUT BY IT!!!

Source: MDN

Hisao Torii, a brain smart enough to cinch the grueling, testing entrance exam into prestigious Tokyo University, may also have been smart to quickly realize he was a flop with women. He'd formed a student band with two other guys and two women not long after starting at what is regarded as Japan's top college.

"We were carrying our gear over to the drummer's home and then stayed around watching TV. I could hear a noise coming from behind me", the 22-year-old student tells Spa!, adding that he looked around to see his band mates had paired off and were all kissing passionately. "After a while, I could tell from the noises that things were getting more frantic, and then they were moaning. I was stuck sitting there on the freezing cold floor, shivering and pretending not to hear what was going on."

Torii quit the band the following day, developed depression and dropped out of college. He's now given up all thoughts of love. "I've got this really strong feeling that only real dorks chase after the opposite sex", he tells Spa! "I get furious that there're people out there who get all caught up in this sort of caper."

Though Torii may not know it, he's the type of guy who's apparently all the rage among Japanese women nowadays. Much of the media is currently smitten with the country's booming otaku culture. This has, in turn, led to widespread claims that the geeks, freaks, weirdoes and fatties who, like Torii, are collectively referred to as otaku, a group once largely shunned by women, are now being seen as the country's hottest hunks. Apparently, their appeal lies in the belief that the otaku are up for a purer form of love and are the obsessive types likely to become devoted to the one gal once they've found her. Spa!, however, finds out that the rumors of nurturing nerds isn't quite all its made out to be.

Makoto Sasahara, like Torii, is an otaku who probably prefers women not to be interested in him. He once had a girlfriend who wasn't too keen on his fascination for geek goods. Every time she came to visit him, he quickly packed up all his otaku paraphernalia. Eventually, he started choosing to meet his nerd buddies instead of her, and she responded by dumping him.

"After she gave me the flick, the first thing I did was stick up my (pin-up girl) Maki Goto calendar and line up all my otaku books on some shelves. I realized then that it was impossible for me to hide the fact that I am an otaku", he tells Spa! "Eventually, women will give up on their otaku boyfriends once they realize they're never going to give up their hobbies. Otaku like women, but they like their hobbies, too. Sometimes it's hard to choose between two good things."

Tatsuo Maeda, a 37-year-old, self-professed train-obsessed otaku, says he doesn't want any attention from women looking for a loyal lad. Maeda gets fiery when he talks about what he claims are Japanese society's prejudices about otaku.

"Even though society may have started to recognize the position of the otaku, there're still plenty of people out there for who the word 'otaku' is a synonym for 'criminal' or 'kidnapper of little girls.' Even though there are some train freaks like me, who are satisfied just reading magazines about trains, the general image seems to be that we're all like that very small number of weird guys who spend every possible moment traveling around to different stations to take photos of the trains traveling in and out, Maeda tells Spa! As far as I'm concerned, your social skills are broadened through your hobbies. Some people may say to me that I'm obsessive because I'm a train otaku, and that I'll be obsessive when it comes to women, too. But, just as I take an interest in all sorts of trains, there's no reason why I can't take an interest in all sorts of women, too. Just because I'm an otaku doesn't mean I'm going to be less susceptible to playing around than any other guy."
2:13 am
And when I do, get some food for two...
MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!! I'm not sure of what day it is (I don't have a job or any other sort of obligation to do so at the moment), but I can safely say that this is gonna be another one of those "best weekends ever" type-a deals.

The crew flew in from Thailand and the UK (only Japan was missing) to hang out and chew the fat re: girls, kung-fu films, "Spaced" (TV series), food, video games, movies-in-general, etc. Y'know, the VITAL shit. SOOO much fun.

Anyway, I have a bit of a computer problem. I'm trying to hook cable modem to my comp. and it's just not working. Now, do I need some sorta adapter from a router to my PC or is it just something internally I need to adjust to get it to run properly? It's a real headache.

Thanks in advance!!!
